Going to the homeland…

I just found out that I am going to be a godmother! Well a co-godmother to be specific.  I am thrilled. One of my best friends from college, Jessica who lives in Sweden is having a baby boy due at the end of May. I cannot wait to meet this gorgeous Swede.

I am going to have to get my act together and start buying gifts and toys now – especially since i am going to be a co-godmother and I need to beat the other godmother for the favorite! The other co-godmother is my other best friend Sarah. The three of us met in college and have been really close ever since.

So let those games begin. The poor godfather, who we don’t know, is going to be scared of us and our competition for the unofficial  best godmother award.

Here are some pictures of the three of us from college and beyond (Sarah on left and Jess on right)…

Jess lives in Stockholm which also means I am going to Stockholm for the christening. Yeah!!  Motherland I am coming home.

My maiden name is Frederickson and although our family does not really know our ancestry I am pretty positive that I have some Scandinavian blood in me.   Whether it is Swedish or Danish we are not sure (there are conflicting stories), but for my godson-to-be’s sake – I declare myself Swedish from now one. I think I am going to have to get Rossetta Stone to learn some Swedish so I can actually speak to my godson.

I am not going to get over there until September and I hope it won’t be too cold. But if it is – I have my Nanook of the North outfit all ready.

Another sign that points to my Swedish heritage is my love of Swedish singers. Can we say ABBA, Ace of Bass (please don’t pretent that you didn’t love them too) and my most recent Swedish crush Icona Pop. I love this song, but I think I am too old to love this song, so please don’t tell anyone.

Congrats! I bet you will be the best godmother.

This post made me think of my latest Swedish crush: the band First Aid Kit. If you like folk music you should check them out: totally gorgeous harmonies. There’s a line in one of their songs that goes “Stockholm’s cold, but I’ve been told I was born to endure this kind of weather.” Hopefully it’s not too cold when you visit!

Its not a competition. You (and Sarah) will be the best godmothers in the world, and I know that you will spoil him will love and care as you have with me, and not presents! Already looking forward to sending him to you when he is going through his rebelous teenage stage ;)
